Welcome to Vintage Motors of Lyons

Front of the shop in Lyons

We sell, consign, purchase, and locate cars of interest for folks that appreciate them. We  always carry an eclectic selection of classics. Whether you are wanting that perfect  Sunday driver, a project car, or a higher end investment, we probably have a car that you will enjoy!

I have been passionate about cars since I was a kid in the '50's and '60's and bought my first car while in high school, which was a then 10 year old 1958 MGA. Since then I have enjoyed and nurtured many classics, both foreign and domestic. I decided to follow and share my passion for cars by creating a welcoming marketplace to not only sell cars, but open a place for everyone to come in and check out and talk cars, look at car books, magazines, posters, artwork, etc..

Our shop was originally built as a Texaco gas station in the 1940's and is conveniently located at the junction of the two highways leading to the Rocky Mountains just north west of Boulder. You won't miss us at the west end of Main Street.  Lyons is a fun, small town offering nationally known live music festivals and brewpub; shops and great fly fishing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, and mountain biking.  The South St. Vrain Canyon is among many great driving roads in the area.

The best part of this business has been all of the great people we meet. Thanks for visiting our site and I hope to meet you whenever you are in the area.

This car is very straight and virtually rust free. We have inspected the car thoroughly for rust and any body damage/repairs (see notes below). It was repainted sometime in its past; fortunately its original color.

The interior is in good condition. The carpets (original?) are worn in places. We understand that the car had a green color interior originally and was replaced by the original owners with black when it became worn. The original headliner is in very good shape.

Weber carbs replacing original Solex carbs; other than these, the engine and engine compartment appear very original. The engine runs very well and was tuned, valves adjusted, etc, by the Porsche shop that brought the car “back to life” in May. A leakdown test was performed on all cylinders with very good results: Cyl1 3.5%; Cyl2 4.0%; Cyl3 4.0%; Cyl4 3.5%, all were leaking to the crank case. These numbers while very good should improve with regular driving and valves now adjusted correctly. A copy of the shops full report on the car is available to a prospective purchaser.

No Rust Pan!

Shop inspection notes of chassis and pan: “the pan appears very original and is in very nice shape, no major dents or signs of impact. The battery area is clean and intact. The jack points are excellent. No sign of any accident damage to body/chassis. There is a very small amount of rust bubbling on the lower drivers door; there is a very small amount of surface rust around the master cylinder where fluid has removed some of the original undercoating but no holes. Inspected rocker panels, no indications of rust or poorly installed new rockers, suspect these are original to car. Doors and windows operate easily and properly. Both front trunk lid and engine compartment lid open and close properly – hinges are in good condition. Rear vent window hardware is intact and in good condition.”

Here is the story of the car from its last owner; very cool that at age 15 he got to help his Dad pick out this car new and that he now sends it on to a new owner with his best wishes!

On lift SAS 050815

Car on lift at Porsche shop for a thorough inspection. After minor maintenance and servicing it now runs and drives very well. When we pulled the sending unit to check the fuel tank we were surprised to find that it looked like new inside, no signs of any rust or contamination! The suspension, brakes, transmission, clutch, engine, exhaust, etc. are all very good.
