Welcome to Vintage Motors of Lyons

Front of the shop in Lyons

We sell, consign, purchase, and locate cars of interest for folks that appreciate them. We  always carry an eclectic selection of classics. Whether you are wanting that perfect  Sunday driver, a project car, or a higher end investment, we probably have a car that you will enjoy!

I have been passionate about cars since I was a kid in the '50's and '60's and bought my first car while in high school, which was a then 10 year old 1958 MGA. Since then I have enjoyed and nurtured many classics, both foreign and domestic. I decided to follow and share my passion for cars by creating a welcoming marketplace to not only sell cars, but open a place for everyone to come in and check out and talk cars, look at car books, magazines, posters, artwork, etc..

Our shop was originally built as a Texaco gas station in the 1940's and is conveniently located at the junction of the two highways leading to the Rocky Mountains just north west of Boulder. You won't miss us at the west end of Main Street.  Lyons is a fun, small town offering nationally known live music festivals and brewpub; shops and great fly fishing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, and mountain biking.  The South St. Vrain Canyon is among many great driving roads in the area.

The best part of this business has been all of the great people we meet. Thanks for visiting our site and I hope to meet you whenever you are in the area.

1953 MG TD – Sold

Beautiful car having received a body-off, nut and bolt restoration. Finished in MG Red with Tan Leather Interior. Great running and driving TD, just serviced and Ready to Enjoy! JUST SOLD – THANK YOU

This excellent example MG TD has benefited from the same ownership for the past 38 years. It received a professional, complete, body off, restoration in the mid-1990’s. All restoration and service records are with the car along with a photo album of the restoration.

Just prior to listing the car for sale, it was serviced at one of the area’s best MG speciality shops to ensure that the car was in top shape for the next owner. A new battery and coolant hoses with new proper type clamps were installed.

The radiator slats are painted to match the interior color of the car per original factory finish.

The MG TD was produced from 1949 until August of 1953. The TD’s were the last of the MG’s built under the direction of the Nuffield organization prior to MG being incorporated into BMC. A total of 29,664 TD’s were built with 80% exported.  This car was built in 1953, the last year of TD production, with 5,021 cars built in that year.

While its predecessor the MG TC  (1945-1949), is credited with starting the sports car craze in the U.S., the TD certainly established it.

Today the TD is considered the most iconic of MG sports cars. It enjoys enthusiastic club support, both locally and internationally. Excellent parts availability, along with many existing servicing shops, are of real benefit to ownership.

This car is finished in factory correct, original MG Red with tan interior. The paint codes used to paint the car during its restoration are included in the cars documentation along with touch up paint. The wheels have been media blasted and painted in the correct silver paint color; MG logo’d hubcaps are in excellent condition.

Door, trim panels, and seats are finished in beautiful tan leather.

Lap type seat belts have been added for safety.

Beautiful wood dash, accented by chrome moldings, provides a classic look and feel. The steering wheel position may be adjusted in and out for driving preference.

MG logo’d bonnet release handles are among the many stylish details found on the car.

There are very few blems found in the finish of the car which include this slight crack in the surface of the paint below the gas cap.

Matching, new high quality StayFast cloth top and side curtains.

Very clean and detailed engine and engine compartment. 1250 cc XPAG Type 2 TD engine.

Twin SU carburetors with individual, chrome covered, air cleaners.

The entire underside of the car is very clean and rust free. All wood panels were replaced with new during restoration.

Correct, original type jack, tools, and grease gun in tool compartment under bonnet.

Original Owners Handbook and additional manuals with car. Note the official name of TD Series MG Midget on the handbook (the TC & TF cars also had the Midget nomenclature; not just the later model Midgets).

JFK and Jackie enjoying their TD back when!

The website www.mg-cars.org.uk is an excellent site for all things TD. Credit to them for the above photo and more.
